2004Q:
Who inspires you the most and why?
- Nelson Mandela. I am an 80s kid. When Mandela walked free and the Berlin Wall came down almost simultaneously, it taught me what persistence, sacrifice, hope and non-violent resistance can achieve.
- My kids (and any other kid): their openness to everything new and their honesty in their reactions.
Q:
What would you have done if you hadn’t become involved in intellectual property?
If working as a lawyer, I’d be working as a judge or lawyer at the International Court of Justice; otherwise I would have become an ambassador, firefighter or carpenter.
Q:
What’s the best thing about your job?
The people around me in the office.
Q:
Which books are currently on your night stand?
Über Menschen by Julie Zeh: What could be a better read for a lawyer than a novel written by a judge of a state constitutional court (who is also from my home town of Bonn)? It is cutting down my sleeping hours currently, though, because you cannot really put it away.
Q:
What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
Volleyball, pickleball (google and become part of it!), playing drums, riding my gravel bike, (punk) rock concerts, travelling, conversations with friends.
Q:
Which advice would you give a junior lawyer?
Be yourself, don’t underestimate yourself, respect others and whatever you do, do it with passion.
